Being Alone

For this project, I wanted to explore the feelings surrounding being alone in one of the biggest cities in the world.

I went to various parks around the city to photograph people sitting alone. I always wondered why people sat alone in parks- were they meditating, on a work break, or did they live there? To my surprise, more often than not, people did not claim to be lonely, and many enjoyed their own company or found comfort through other things. I got answers I wasn’t expecting from the people I photographed, and it became clear to me that time alone was seen as a luxury to many of the people I talked to.
